Sunday Soldier, another Hat-trick Hero!

Sunday Soldier, progressive mare wins three on the bounce!

To land a hat-trick is a difficult feat to achieve for any horse. There are so many factors that make it difficult. Obviously the horse has to be in good form, quite often has to run with a quick turnaround, has to run in better company or off higher weights as the handicapper is raising your mark and you also have to have to find races and conditions to suit. All of this while trying to avoid other horses that could be well handicapped!

This season we have had two horses land hat-tricks, a fantastic achievement for the yard and a really encouraging sign of things to come. We take great pride in bringing horses on, to allow them to progress, as well as race planning and targeting routes with horses to ensure they’re maximising their chances on the track.

Sunday soldier has improved with every run and landed her hat-trick at Sedgefield in impressive fashion under Nick Slatter. She has previously won her previous two races at Musselburgh under Richie Mclernon.

She has clearly appreciated a step back in trip, being by Shantou we originally thought she’d want further. She does travel kindly though and has shown a great turn of foot in her recent races. Her jumping has also improved with every start.

What a thrill it has been for her owners, 4 Left Footers & A Blewnose, they have had success in the past with a progressive mare, The Distant Lady.

Well done to the team here at Martin Hill, we think there could be even more from Sunday Soldier and can’t wait to watch her continue to light up the track!
