The Perfect start
Marble Sands has always been a horse we think highly of and to be fair he’s lived up to the hype. He won an Ascot bumper in his youth and has since progressed into one of the leading British trained novice hurdlers, winning the Grade 2 Sidney Banks hurdle, before finishing best of the Brits in the Ballymore Hurdle last season.
We had high hopes that ‘Marty’ would be even better over fences, he’d been schooling well, very well actually. He went up to Ayr for a bit of a pipe opener, a good place to start. We thought he may find the 2m too short, but we were hopeful of a good run.
Well he was fantastic! He dominated the race, jumping impeccably from the start. Nick Slatter gave him a great ride and the pair grew in confidence throughout. It was a novice handicap, so we will wait to hear what the handicapper does to his mark, but it’s likely that we’ll target a better race next time out. Maybe Newbury for the John Francome.
We are thrilled for Marty, he has done us all proud. Especially David and Jackie Adams who own him, they deserve to have a horse like this. They put a lot into our yard and we’re always grateful for their continued support.
Jodie rides Marble Sands every day and has done since the start. Well done to him for being a major part in the journey, fingers crossed for an exciting season ahead!
